They were by no means 'decided' at Gettysburg in the words of Jeff Sessions. They are still being decided today. How will we seek to redress grievances within a corrupt system? A Convention of States or inevitable balkanization.

The tale of two families. Part 1.

XX and XY had been happily married for many years. They had a beautiful house and beautiful children. The loving family was at a turning point. XX and XY started to hate each other. They couldn't stand the site of one another. Everything ended in argument and shouting. They even often resulted to physical violence. Their lives gradually became miserable.
But for the sake of their children and to keep the beautiful house they so eagerly worked for, they endured a life of constant conflict.
Until one day, XX murdered XY while he was sleeping. Later the same day XX committed suicide.
The house was sold on auction, and the children became homeless, they were past the age of adoption.

The tale of two families. Part 2.

XX and XY had been happily married for many years. They had a beautiful house and beautiful children. The loving family was at a turning point. XX and XY started to dislike each other.
Not a day went by without an argument. The children were starting to suffer from the constant bickering.
One day, XX and XY, sat down at the dinning room table, and discussed the situation. They came to the conclusion that they needed to divorce. They even formed a plan to alleviate the children's suffering. Since XY was earning more than XX, they decided that XX would remain with the children in the family home.
They made a schedule for the children to spend time with their father, and agreed on mutually supporting each other for the sake of children. They took their plan to lawyer, and 90 days later, they were pronounced divorced.
Today, they remain friendly, and the children are much happier than before.

Morality

The two families represent the current situation in the United States of America. The outcome of the conflict could be very different, depending on the will of it's people.

Will the family fight a Civil War to their near destruction?

Will the family agree to separate and how can it be accomplished?  The ideal would be for the Federal Government to literally step back and resign their position, giving each State the right to be on their own. Yes, unification of some States could result, in order to form a more agreeable alliance, for defense and representation regarding other nations.

Strangely enough that sounds like the birth of the old USA....
