Micah 5

1 Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops; He has laid siege against us; They will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.

2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.”
3 Therefore He shall give them up, Until the time that she who is in labor has given birth; Then the remnant of His brethren Shall return to the children of Israel.
4 And He shall stand and feed His flock In the strength of the Lord, In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God; And they shall abide, For now He shall be great To the ends of the earth;
5 And this One shall be peace. When the Assyrian comes into our land, And when he treads in our palaces, Then we will raise against him Seven shepherds and eight princely men.
6 They shall waste with the sword the land of Assyria, And the land of Nimrod at its entrances; Thus He shall deliver us from the Assyrian, When he comes into our land And when he treads within our borders.
7 Then the remnant of Jacob Shall be in the midst of many peoples, Like dew from the Lord, Like showers on the grass, That tarry for no man Nor wait for the sons of men.
8 And the remnant of Jacob Shall be among the Gentiles, In the midst of many peoples, Like a lion among the beasts of the forest, Like a young lion among flocks of sheep, Who, if he passes through, Both treads down and tears in pieces, And none can deliver.
9 Your hand shall be lifted against your adversaries, And all your enemies shall be cut off.
10 “And it shall be in that day,” says the Lord, “That I will cut off your horses from your midst And destroy your chariots.
11 I will cut off the cities of your land And throw down all your strongholds.
12 I will cut off sorceries from your hand, And you shall have no soothsayers.
13 Your carved images I will also cut off, And your sacred pillars from your midst; You shall no more worship the work of your hands;
14 I will pluck your wooden images from your midst; Thus I will destroy your cities.
15 And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury On the nations that have not heard.”

Two Thirds in the Land shall be cut off and die

Zechariah 13:
8 And it shall come to pass in all the land,” Says the Lord, “That two-thirds in it shall be cut off and die, But one-third shall be left in it:
9 I will bring the one-third through the fire, Will refine them as silver is refined, And test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, And I will answer them. I will say, ‘This is My people’; And each one will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’ ”

Who lives in 'the Land'?
Israelis; Lebaneses; Jordanians and Palestinians. Muslims; Jews; Christians; and secular non believers of any religion.
'The Land' is not written in the sense of today's borders. It also includes part of Lebanon; Jordan; and Syria.
So let's say there are a total of 15 millions living in Israel and Palestine combined. 2/3 will be cut off and die: 10 million will die.
Who? Those who will not call on the name of the Lord.
For Christians, the name of the Lord is Christ Jesus.
For Jews, they speak of God or HaShem or other names when in prayer, including Yahweh. They only recognize God the Father, but don't know his son's name (Proverbs 30:3-4)
If we read further into Zechariah 14, Jerusalem becomes the ultimate target.

Romans 11:15

Romans 8:27 Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, The remnant will be saved.
28 For He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, Because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth.”
29 And as Isaiah said before: “Unless the Lord of Sabaoth(Hosts) had left us a seed, We would have become like Sodom, And we would have been made like Gomorrah.”
30 What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith;
31 but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness.
32 Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone.
33 As it is written: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense, And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”

Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

"the same Lord over all"
Scriptures says Lord over all Jews and Greeks. At that time Islam did not exist. Islamic invasions only started after the year 650.
People had to convert or pay a tax or in some cases die. Those who lived in 'the Land' at the time were either Jews or Christians. Did Arabs stay in the land after the invasion? Certainly, they had to enforce their laws. While the more military minded moved on to their next conquests.

As far as I'm concerned, I believe that those indegineous to 'the Land' are those who were once again, not just ruled (by Otomans and British), but invaded by the (what I call the minions of Gog) descendants of Gomer (son of Japheth). Ezekiel in chapter 38 states God calling it the 'evil plan'.
