Speaking in Tongues

Acts 2:1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.
6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.
7 Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans?
8 And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?
9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretans and Arabs— we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”
12 So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”

13 Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.”

The fallacy of those who claim to speak in tongues
Speaking in tongues, also known as glossolalia, is a phenomenon or practice in which people utter words or speech-like sounds, often thought to be languages unknown to the speaker. One definition used by linguists is the fluid vocalisation of speech-like syllables that lack any readily comprehensible meaning. In some cases, as part of religious practice, some believe it to be a divine language unknown to the speaker. (source Wikipedia)

Some people claim to be able to speak in tongues. It sounds like gibberish to every one.
According to the Bible, this ability renders understandable speech to most listeners, in their own language.
Ten people could be standing there, all from different linguistic regions, and yet, they would hear it in their own language.
Like an auto translator does. But in God everything is possible.

Let's speak of Hebrew, the language. Hebrew was the language of creation. Adam and Eve, and all the animals of the garden of Eden spoke Hebrew. The animals' ability to speak was removed by God when they were kicked out of the Garden.
That ancient language was spoken by all until Babel, when God confused the speech of mankind.
And it remained that way. No one understood Hebrew any more, until Abraham. God downloaded the Hebrew language into Abraham, who became the 1st to reintroduce Hebrew to the world. That's how he became known as 'Abraham the Hebrew'.

Some claim that to be able to communicate with God, one must be able to speak Hebrew. Another fallacy. God understands and speaks ALL languages. And He can read our hearts and intentions without hearing speech.
