In the MLS, the average pay is a little over $100,000 a year. If they have a family, they need a 2nd job.
In comparison, Players bought from a European team get paid per year: Messi plays in the MLS for Miami, $28M (his former clubs: Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain); Son Heung-Min (Korea), also in the MLS for Los Angeles (his former clubs: Hamburg and Chelsea) $11M.
For the MLS too become popular the clubs need to bring in more famous players to attract the public, instead of flooding the league with average foreign players.

As long as Americans prefer Football; Basketball; Baseball; the best athletes will go there.
Even in High Schools, coaches of the major sports pull out the most promissing athletes from 'Soccer'.
